5 Tips to Get More Organized and Reduce Stress

Over the years, I’ve tried just about every magical hack that has preached it will keep me more organized. Some work better than others. As my schedule and workload fluctuates, here are the 5 things I try to do to keep me more organized and less stressed.

1. Get a good nights sleep

When I’m well rested, I’m able to handle stress better. Try going to bed at the same time and establishing a schedule. If you and your significant other have different sleep schedules or they snore, try an eye mask and some ear plugs. These are cheap but effective ways to increase the quality of your sleep.

2. Meal prep and Plan

I’m not going to preach to you about eating enough veggies or tell you that paleo eating is the best diet. Whatever your diet is, planning out what’s for dinner each night and lunch each day has definitely reduced the meal time frenzy of “what am I going to eat?” Not only that, it’s cut down on my family’s food waste and grocery bill. I also happen to make less unhealthy choices. When I plan out the meals in advance, I’m also able to plan when I’m going to cook the more time consuming meals and when I know I’m only going to have 30 minutes to heat up leftovers and chow down. I use my InstantPot regularly and… Pro tip: glass containers are safe to reheat food in and clean easily in the dishwasher.

3. Keep a Planner or To Do List

How do you make sure you accomplish everything you need to? You write it down and you plan when you’re going to do it. While I’m a big believer in the bullet journal system, there are plenty of other options out there, such as Moleskine planners or Erin Condren. Find a system that works for your needs.

4. Exercise Regularly

This could be a 15 minute walk around the office or a 2 hour CrossFit class. Try to move for at least 15 minutes a day and break a sweat a few times a week. I might drag my feet on the way to the gym and even convince myself that I don’t have time. Afterwards, I’m always glad I got that workout in. I swear by my jump rope if I’m looking for a quick sweat.

5. Don’t forget to Breathe and Treat Yourself

Balance is key. Hurrying around cramming in all the steps above can make yourself crazy, especially with a busy schedule. Don’t forget to slow down. Get a manicure (Essie Gel Couture is a great do it yourself option!) or catch some football with the guys. Schedule a date night. Make time for the people you care about and relax a little, you’ve earned it!
